Dr. Rob McCleland Appointed NAB Executive Director
October 1, 2007
Dr. Rob McCleland was appointed executive director of the North American Baptist Conference on Tuesday evening, September 25, by the General Council of NAB, the official governing body of NAB when a Triennial does not take place. On Monday and Tuesday, I participated in the interview process leading up to the vote of the appointment on Tuesday night.Rob will start December 1. Below is a link that will provide more information about him.Let me share some of my impressions. In a post-denominational and post-Christian world, I believe there is still Kingdom work that will get accomplished better if God's people work together. Rob agrees and verbalized it at many junctures of the candidating process. If we had not chosen Rob, we would still be looking for someone with the same gifts and experiences he possesses. He has been involved in local church ministries, conference work, including development, and higher education with Nyack College in Washington,
After our interview, Rob was going to a cabin with some long-time friends to spend the week hiking, hunting, reading, and communing with God and nature. I think this speaks well to his life and its impact on others. The NAB Conference needs leadership that majors on priorities that revolve around a clear vision of what part we play in God's Kingdom. I believe Rob will lead us in this direction; we need to show willingness to follow. Sioux Falls Seminary, while I am president, will commit itself to do everything we can to realize what God wants to do through NAB. We have been, are, and will be part of the team to grow the Kingdom through NAB. Welcome, Rob!
