Sioux Falls Seminary helps individuals prepare for a well-lived Christian life.  In some cases, that means equipping pastors and church leaders for ministry.  In other cases, it means developing individuals for God's unique callings in their lives.  We offer a variety of great accredited degree programs, graduate-level certificates, and even non-accredited programming to help serve individuals seeking education and training in counseling, social entrepreneurship, community development, Christian leadership, spiritual direction, missions, and more.  If you feel God has called you to serve with him in mission, we encourage you to start a conversation with us or browse our offerings below.

Doctor of Ministry

The Doctor of Ministry is a practical, professional degree program that enables individuals to reflect critically upon their vocations, engage in rigorous theological reflection and advanced learning experiences, and grow in ministry competence. The Doctor of Ministry program is designed for the continuing development of persons who have exhibited exceptional leadership and academic ability.

Master of Divinity

Developing Christian leaders for various forms of ministry is the primary function of the Master of Divinity program. The three-year course of study prepares persons for pastoral leadership and ordination in most denominations. The program consists of a core of Bible, theology, and ministry courses. Students develop personal resources as well as the knowledge and skills necessary to become spiritual leaders. Graduates are equipped for a variety of pastoral ministries: chaplaincy, military chaplaincy, church planting, missions, youth ministry, and other church staff ministries as well as for participation in the kingdom mission. The program also prepares capable persons for doctoral studies.

MA Christian Leadership

The two-year Master of Arts in Christian Leadership program is designed for those seeking to serve the Mission of God through active involvement in local church, parachurch, nonprofit, or workplace ministry. The program is designed to develop individuals for their unique ministry callings. It provides biblical, theological, and practical foundations for individuals desiring to enhance their ministry. It is flexible enough to meet the developmental needs of a variety of objectives.

MA Counseling

The two-year Master of Arts in Counseling is an integrative program that prepares students to think psychologically and theologically about their work as therapists. The robust program allows students to pursue work in the areas of counseling, marriage & family therapy, child & adolescent behavior, mental health counseling, and more. Students will gain understanding of concepts and discuss practical uses in counseling, participate in supervisory experiences, and be mentored. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to enter professional settings as quality therapists or to pursue doctoral studies.

MA Bible & Theology

By focusing on the classic theological disciplines, the Master of Arts (Bible and Theology) provides the opportunity for students to gain the knowledge and understanding necessary for faithful participation in God’s mission. In addition, it provides an expanded track for individuals who seek to teach or pursue advanced graduate study. The two-year degree program focuses on Bible, theology, and church history and provides students with flexibility to specialize in an area of interest. Also offered are an expanded PhD preparation track, consisting of additional credit hours (twelve in Biblical languages and twelve in electives for specialization), and an Intercultural Studies track, for individuals serving as missionaries or those who have started the process of becoming missionaries.

3-3 & 3-2 Programs

The 3-3 Program combines a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Divinity in partnership with the University of Sioux Falls or Dakota Wesleyan University. It involves three years of study at one of the colleges and three years of study at Sioux Falls Seminary. The 3-2 Program combines a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Christian Leadership with a specialization in Youth Ministries. It involves three years of study at the undergraduate level and two years of study at Sioux Falls Seminary.

Graduate Certificates

The Graduate Certificate in Theological Studies is a 20 credit hour program. It offers opportunities for both personal and professional growth. With no specific course requirements, the program allows for maximum flexibility. Students can structure the Graduate Certificate in Theological Studies in a number of ways, including an intense year of theological study; continuing education in an area(s) of choice; or training for lay leaders, pastors, counselors, parish nurses, and others. The program can be taken in Sioux Falls or from a distance.

Distance Learning

The seminary’s vision is to provide quality theological education for all students, regardless of where they live. In addition to online course offerings and short-term intensives, Sioux Falls Seminary offers the Kairos Project. It is an alternative educational track within the Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Christian Leadership, and Master of Arts (Bible and Theology) programs that facilitates flexible learning through contextually integrated educational moments and adaptable assignments. It is designed specifically for individuals who are actively engaged in ministry.

Non-Degree Certificates

Non-Degree Certificate programs offer enrichment and focus in a specific area of ministry at the non-graduate, non-accredited level. Offerings are affordable and flexible and are designed specifically to enhance personal and professional development. Courses taken are graded on a pass/fail basis and no academic credit is recorded. Sioux Falls Seminary offers a Certificate in Christian Ministry and a Certificate of Completion in Training for Spiritual Direction.
