SEMINARY RECEIVES UNANIMOUS APPROVAL TO OFFER PROGRAMS IN NEBRASKA
July 21, 2011
Sioux Falls Seminary received unanimous approval today (July 21, 2011) from the Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education in Lincoln, NE, to offer a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry program in Omaha. Today's approval makes Sioux Falls Seminary the first Protestant seminary offering such coursework in Nebraska and the first accredited seminary in Omaha.
The newly-approved Master of Divinity program in Omaha will begin this fall while plans for the Doctor of Ministry program are underway. The Omaha programs will take place alongside the current program offerings at the seminary's campus in Sioux Falls, SD.
"We began conversations with Omaha churches, universities, and colleges asking if there was a need, and the community really embraced us," said Dr. Mike Hagan, President of Sioux Falls Seminary. "We are discovering that seminary education is greatly needed in Omaha."
In order to minimize operational costs and pass on additional benefits to students, Omaha courses will be offered at various locations throughout the city. Arrangements have been made for the use of classroom and library space with Omaha-area universities and churches. Creighton University, Grace University, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha have all granted library privileges to the seminary's Omaha students and Covenant Presbyterian Church has partnered as a site for classes.
"Sioux Falls Seminary is delighted with the Nebraska Coordinating Commission on Postsecondary Education's unanimous approval of our application to offer classes in Nebraska. For the first time, this will bring accredited, local Master of Divinity education to Nebraska students," said Dr. Ronald Sisk, Academic Vice President and Dean at Sioux Falls Seminary. "We especially want to thank Omaha area educational and religious leaders, including Grace University, Creighton University, and Nebraska Christian College for their interest in and support of this venture."
