Greg Henson Named Sioux Falls Seminary’s 12th President

November 4, 2013

Sioux Falls Seminary joyfully shares that Greg Henson has been named its 12th president.  The vote by the Board of Trustees at its meeting on October 25, 2013, was unanimous.  Henson will begin his new role on February 3, 2014.

“We are extremely excited about the appointment of Greg Henson as our new president.  He has a superb knowledge of seminary education and what is needed for its future,” said Charles Weber, Presidential Search Committee Co-Chair.  “He brings to Sioux Falls Seminary a strong personal faith and a commitment to equipping individuals for service to the church locally and worldwide.”

Until the start of his new term at Sioux Falls Seminary, Henson will complete his role as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, IL, where he has developed and implemented educational partnerships and programs that encourage innovation and introduce change.

Henson’s Hopes for Sioux Falls Seminary

According to Henson, Sioux Falls Seminary has great potential for innovation and holds a unique position within the landscape of theological education.  "When I look at Sioux Falls Seminary, I see a school that cares deeply about the Kingdom of God and the work of the Church, a school that has a unique opportunity to impact the way students are trained for and engaged in ministry.  Together, I believe we can journey into a future in which Sioux Falls Seminary becomes a leading example of how ministry training can and should be done."

After taking office in February, Henson looks forward to working with the Sioux Falls Seminary community to create a system of theological education that is affordable, accessible, and relevant through:

  • Integrated innovation;
  • Transformational giving; and
  • Inviting people to participate in what God is doing at Sioux Falls Seminary.

Experience Highlights

Henson is experienced in the many facets of theological education and has a passion for the Church and the role of seminaries.  At Northern Seminary, he played a key role in the school’s success by developing staffing structures, academic programs, fundraising initiatives, and financial models built on integrated organizational designs.  Ministry experience includes roles such as senior pastor, youth pastor, worship leader, camp director, and church planting team member.  He believes seminaries play a vital role in Christ’s Church and that theological education can truly impact the future of the Church.  His experiences at Northern, with the Association of Theological Schools, and in ministry go well beyond the roles he has filled and the years he has served.

“To say we are pleased with the choice of our new president is an understatement.  The Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, staff, and students who were able to meet Greg all support him as the individual that God has chosen for this time and this place in Sioux Falls Seminary’s journey,” said Brian Russell, SFS Board Chair.

As we look forward to this new chapter in the history of Sioux Falls Seminary, we ask for your continued prayer support by lifting up the Board of Trustees, seminary staff, and students in prayer and by thanking God for the work he is doing at Sioux Falls Seminary.
