Auction Held to Raise Funds for New Endowment Fund
May 7, 2007
Four homemade pies sold for an average of $81 each at the first ever Auction and Breakfast Buffet for men of the North American Baptist Conference. Taking place in the seminary's Worship and Leadership Centre on March 24, 2007, the event helped raise funds for a newly created NAB Men's Endowment Fund at North American Baptist Seminary.
The auction and breakfast buffet was attended by nearly 60 gentlemen from area North American Baptist churches from Avon, SD, to George, IA. Before the auction, attendees were able to browse at the wide selection of items to be auctioned. These included: a two-day pheasant hunt with lodging and guaranteed six birds; gift cards for lunch or dinner; timeshare vacation spots; hotel getaways; bags of seed; packages for an oil change or tire rotation; antique and new furniture; tools; framed artwork; and more.
Each item auctioned off at the event was a donation from area businesses or supporters of the seminary, including those four homemade pies baked by Bertha Rieb, a former North American Baptist Seminary cook. Nearly $8000 had been raised at the close of the auction - with all proceeds going directly into the NAB Men's Scholarship Endowment fund.
According to Ben Engbrecht of the seminary's Leadership Foundation, plans for next year's fundraiser are already taking shape.
