Non-degree certificate programs offer enrichment and focus in a specific area of ministry at the non-graduate, non-accredited level. They are affordable and flexible and are designed to enhance personal and professional development. Non-degree certificates fill a unique need for individuals who are seeking to learn more about Christian ministry or wishing to enrich his/her professional experience. Courses taken through these programs are graded on a pass/fail basis and no academic credit is recorded. Non-degree programs are not a substitute for graduate-level credit and likewise are not recognized as graduate-level study. Students considering seminary in the future should speak with an admissions counselor before enrolling.

Non-Degree Certificate Options
Certificate in Christian Ministry
The Certificate in Christian Ministry offers students the ability to concentrate their studies in a specific area of Christian ministry. Two different course plans are offered for the Certificate in Christian Ministry--a 5-course or 10-course plan. Students are encouraged to choose the certificate plan that best matches their educational background and prior ministry experience. With the help of an advisor, individualized plans are developed for each student.
Areas of Specialization
Students may either follow the general Certificate in Christian Ministry course of study or choose a specific area in which to concentrate their studies. Areas include Bible, theology, pastoral care, youth ministry, family ministry, spiritual formation, community development, intercultural studies, leadership, and more.
Training in Spiritual Direction Program
The two-year, 16 credit hour Training in Spiritual Direction Program fills a unique need in our region by providing specialized training to individuals who accompany others on their life journeys—whether sacred or secular. The program is divided into six course units and is spread out over the course of two years. Class sessions are held on Monday evenings between September and May. It is ideal for: The Training in Spiritual Direction Program is ideal for: lay ministers, mentors, chaplains, spiritual care givers (paid or volunteer), campus ministers, pastors, human resource directors, teachers, counselors, student development personnel, camp directors and coordinators, and retreat center directors.
Cost of Attendance
Costs involved with the non-degree certificate programs at Sioux Falls Seminary include:
- $20 non-refundable application fee
- $100 per credit hour rate for courses taken
- Cost of books and materials
