Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries, Brookings, SD
Overview: The Director of Children, Youth, & Family Ministries will work alongside the pastor and the Christian Education Committee (1) to develop and facilitate fun, meaningful, and relevant Bible-based programs for children and youth, (2) to provide prayer and emotional support for the families in our congregation, and (3) to coordinate outreach efforts to families, kids, and teens in our growing city. Responsibilities: - Lead weekly youth group meetings; plan and carry out special youth events and trips; mentor and show support to youth in their everyday lives - Provide vision and oversight for children and youth Sunday school programs; choose and organize curriculum; recruit volunteers to teach and help - Facilitate annual VBS program: choose curriculum, coordinate volunteers, arrange publicity - Provide care and support for families with children and teens by connecting with them often, being aware of their particular needs and concerns, praying for them and with them, and being an advocate for them among the leaders of the church - Work closely with the pastor to develop and carry out plans for outreach to young families, kids, and teens in the Brookings area - Meet weekly with the pastor to discuss plans, progress, vision - Attend and give a report at monthly Christian Education Committee meetings Qualifications: - Mature faith and devotion to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior - A love for children and teens and a passion to nurture their faith and help them grow into mature disciples of Christ - Good knowledge of the Bible and ability to explain and interpret its stories and teachings so that they come alive for kids and youth - Previous paid or volunteer experience with children and/or youth (e.g., Sunday school teacher, youth leader, kids program coordinator) - Ability to plan and lead events, retreats, mission trips - Strong leadership skills, including ability to recruit, equip, and motivate volunteers - Willingness to attend Sunday worship services and participate in the life of our congregation This is a part-time position (approx. 10 hours/week) with flexible hours, supervised by the pastor.
