biography

Del became the “Timothy” of the Northeast Christian Church while growing up in Rockford, Illinois. There he was nurtured as a young person and discovered a vision for Christian service. Today, Del is a master of the art of interpretation. As a graduate student at Lincoln Christian Seminary, Del first began interpreting when he learned to draw out the meaning of the Biblical text. Now, as a theologically-trained marriage and family therapist, he interprets the text of people’s lives with an awareness that the “purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but an individual of understanding draws them out” (Proverbs 20:5). Having served as an associate minister, a counselor in a department of community and social psychiatry, a marriage and family therapist on various church staffs, and the director of a Christian counseling service for over 20 years combined, Del found his way to Sioux Falls Seminary in 1993. It was here where he discovered his true passion is in the classroom and behind the one-way mirror in direct observation therapy supervision. Now, Del finds joy in training students to interpret the lives of their clients in the SFS Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic as they inspire persons and relationships to approach their difficulties in more productive ways.
